Photojournalists Minzayar Oo and Hkun Lat released from prison
Hamburg (ots) - Minzayar Oo and Hkun Lat have been released from prison in Bangladesh. The two photographers, detained on September 7th in the town of Cox's Bazar, are free on bail.
"We are very relieved", commented GEO's editor-in-chief Christoph Kucklick and Panos Picture's director Adrian Evans on the news of the release. "In the past 15 days, many people from around the world have lobbied for the release of Minzayar Oo and Hkun Lat. We have to thank everybody who has worked both publicly and behind the scenes to secure the release. Now we need to make sure that the case will be completely dropped."
The two Burmese photographers Minzayar Oo and Hkun Lat arrived on September 6th in the town of Cox's Bazar, on assignment from GEO magazine to cover the Rohingya refugee crisis. On September 7th they were arrested by local police and have since been kept in prison.
