Fraport and Airlines Sign First Five-year Agreement on Airport Charges at FRA

Frankfurt, Germany (ots)

Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services
Worldwide and the airlines serving Frankfurt Airport (FRA) today
signed a basic agreement defining, for the first time, the level of
FRA's airport charges over a longer period. The airport company
believes this agreement, which gives both sides planning security
over the next five years, is a continuation of a reliable partnership
system with the airlines and their associations.
Fraport AG negotiated the agreement with the Board of Airline
Representatives in Germany (BARIG) -- which represents airlines
flying to Germany -- the German Airlines Association (ADL
Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Luftfahrt-Unternehmen) and Deutsche
Lufthansa. The basic agreement will be retroactive to January 1,
The agreement links airport charges with actual traffic
development. This new charging agreement is based on the 2001
proceeds from airport charges, which are related to the number of
departing passengers and which serve as a reference ratio. Under the
agreement, this reference ratio will be increased by a rate of about
two percent annually, if the forecast for passenger figures is
reached. If passenger traffic grows faster than planned, the
resulting higher income will go to the airlines on a pro rata basis -
i.e., one-third for the airlines and two-thirds for Fraport AG. The
risk of passenger traffic developing below plan will be shared on the
same pro rata basis.
The Hessian Ministry of Economics, Transport and State Development
has already signalled its approval for this agreement. With the
signing of this basic agreement, Fraport AG has secured via the
airlines financing for a EURO 76 million passive noise protection
program for residents in the airport vicinity.
