Launch of the First Free Europe-Wide Social Community
KONTENT GmbH from the Ruhr region has launched the first free cloud community in order to promote European cultural exchange.
Users can register at https://en.freecloud.eu by submitting their e-mail addresses and receive 1 GB cloud storage space, an appointment calendar, a contact database as well as chat and video conferencing. The service is new and available in a free, ad-financed version.
The special feature of the Europe Cloud is that users can freely assign themselves to multiple geographic regions and thereby establish an international circle of friends with whom they can discuss local topics by sharing documents, appointments and contact data as well as through the usage of chat and video conferencing services.
Uli Klinkhammer, managing director of KONTENT GmbH: "The idea behind freecloud is to promote the European idea by bringing people from various countries together."
Functionalities are based on the open source software Nextcloud, which will presumably also be used in the near future by the German Federal Administration.
Uploaded data as well as contact and calendar appointments can be synchronised by means of Android and iOS apps as well as with standard programmes under Microsoft Windows, Linux and MacOS. The cloud services can additionally be accessed via web browsers and are operated from an independent datacentre in Duisburg, Germany. Acquisition, protection and forwarding of personal data is performed according to the strict guidelines of the European Commission (GDPR).
Entrepreneur Uli Klinkhammer has established and operated Internet services for the German-speaking market since 1994, which included the free hosting service freepage.de (1998) and the free domain service freecity.de (2000).
freecloud.eu is now the third service in this series, which is, for the first time, being offered in English with an international orientation.
freecloud is operated by KONTENT GmbH, a subsidiary of KON GmbH Klinkhammer Online. The group of companies has registered a total of 400,000 Internet domains since 1994 and provided services for nearly 1 million users.
