Henkel\047s 1999 Results Break New Records
Earnings Before Interest and Taxes (EBIT) Up By 8.3 Percent
Net Earnings Improved to Euro 404 Million

Duesseldorf, Germany (ots-PRNewswire) - The provisional financial statement data indicate that in 1999 Henkel improved on its already excellent performance of the previous year with regard to sales, operating profit (EBIT), and net earnings, and was able to expand its important global position in all business segments. Group sales increased by 4.1 percent to euro 11.4 billion. Developments in Europe, where sales improved by 2.2 percent to euro 8.0 billion, were a major contributing factor. Businesses in North America increased sales by 7.8 percent to euro 1.9 billion, mainly due to favorable exchange rates. A 21.0 percent increase in sales to euro 926 million in Asia markedly reflected the region's on going economic recovery as well as positive exchange rate effects. Operating profit (EBIT) reached a new high of euro 857 million, 8.3 percent more than in 1998. Return on sales improved to 7.5 percent. Net earnings, at euro 404 million -- a rise of 8.6 percent -- achieved a new record high. Return on investment, EBIT in percent of net operating assets, increased from 12.4 percent to 13.2 percent.
