In the first 3 quarters of 2000, WEB.DE AG recorded sales of EUR 8.96 million - that's four times (+301%) as much as in the first three quarters of the previous year and 50% higher than projected as at the IPO. WEB.DE AG achieved sales revenue to the tune of EUR 3.01 million in Q3 2000. This represents an increase of 257% as against the same period of the previous year. eCommerce sales experienced a particularly strong increase. eCommerce sales (promotions and transaction fees) contributed 60% towards the total sales of Q3 2000.
The earnings situation was improved in Q3 2000 despite the hefty staff and capacity expansions. Net loss was again significantly reduced from EUR 4.7 million (Q2 2000) to EUR 3.9 million in Q3 2000. Cash and cash equivalents and securities amounted to EUR 187.2 million as at 30 September 2000. The complete net proceeds from the IPO in February 2000 are existent. The equity ratio comes to 98% of the balance sheet total.
The Internet portal WEB.DE was able to expand its market reach of the market. The number of registered users has increased more than 7-fold since the beginning of the year. In Q3 2000 alone, the number of registered users rose by 40% from 1.5 million to 2.1 million. According to a survey of Gesellschaft für Konsumforschung (GfK) in July 2000, WEB.DE's market reach lies at 30% compared to 22% in December 1999. This means that 5.4 million Germans currently use WEB.DE.
Given the successful business development, WEB.DE already expects a positive result for Q4 2000 - one year earlier than predicted at the IPO in February.
