Compared with the equivalent period last year, group sales rose approximately 20 percent to EUR 164.1 (I/99: EUR 136.8). EBITDA more than trebled in the first quarter of 2000 to EUR 9.6 million (I/99: EUR 2.9 million). The first quarter of the year is the weakest for the Triumph-Adler Group due to seasonal factors affecting the BauTech (Construction) and Spiel & Freizeit (Toys & Leisure) business units. The quarterly loss decreased from EUR 10.8 (I/99) to EUR 6.5 million. As Dr. Raimund König, Chairman of the Managing Board, points out: "The positive business development of the past year has been maintained. Thus, the TA Triumph-Adler AG has made a very successful start into the year 2000." In terms of sales revenue, the core business unit Triumph-Adler Experts @ Output reported an increase of 48 percent over the previous year (from EUR 67.4 to roughly EUR 100 million). This development can be attributed primarily to the consolidation of the PPE and UTAX companies, which were acquired at the end of 1999. The TA Beteiligung business unit posted sales of EUR 64.3 million (I/99: EUR 69.4 million) of which EUR 21.3 million was accounted for by the Spiel & Freizeit business unit (I/99: EUR 43.4 million, including the Zapf Creation AG), EUR 22.8 million by BauTech (I/99: EUR 17.9 million) and EUR 20.3 million by Electronic/Miscellaneous (I/99: EUR 8,1 million). During the first quarter of 2000, the group's EBITDA more than trebled to EUR 9.6 million (I/99: EUR 2.9 million). This has been due particularly to the strong growth in the Triumph-Adler Experts @ Output business unit: from EUR 5.1 million to EUR 10.5 million. With an EBITDA of EUR 3.1 million, the TA Beteiligung business unit also recorded a much higher result than over the same period last year (EUR 1.1 million). The costs for the Central Division imposed some EUR -4.0 million on the Group EBITDA (I/99: EUR - 3.3 million).
