Graz/Ankara, June 15, 2010. International technology Group ANDRITZ will supply electromechanical equipment with a total value of approximately 340 MEUR as part of the construction of the Ilisu hydropower station in Turkey. Following the temporary suspension of the supply contracts, all contractual requirements for their resumption have now been met; thus, ANDRITZ will book the order presumably in the second quarter of 2010.

ANDRITZ HYDRO´s scope of supply includes six Francis turbines each with an output of 200 MW, six generators, additional equipment, as well as engineering services. The delivery time is seven years in total. ANDRITZ HYDRO is part of the delivery consortium led by the Turkish construction company Nurol and which includes also other European and Turkish companies. Total costs of the project amount to approximately 1.1 billion Euros.

As a result of its rapid economic growth and the accompanying sharp rise in electricity demand, the expansion of hydropower is important for Turkey. Ilisu will supply eco-friendly electricity for two million households as from 2015. The Turkish government will not only comply with the extensive legal requirements, but has also officially stated that it will abide unchanged by the planned accompanying measures relating to environmental protection and to social and cultural aspects. The infrastructure for the local population will also see considerable improvement. Together with erection of the hydropower plant, modern wastewater treatment plants will be built for three cities (among them Diyarbakir with a population of around 800,000), the drinking water supply will be enhanced, and bridges and roads will be built. Thus, a total of around 4,000 new jobs will be created.
