The Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena - the German Energy Agency) has conferred the Energy Efficiency Awards 2014 on three energy efficiency projects in the private sector. Winner of the first prize was the metallurgical company Aluminium Norf GmbH for optimising energy consumption in the aluminium annealing process. Second prize was awarded to the food processing company Moll Marzipan GmbH for adapting its energy-intensive production facilities to requirements, while third prize went to BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH for a resource efficiency programme implemented throughout the home appliances group. The awards were handed out at the dena Energy Efficiency Congress in Berlin, which was opened today by German Minister of Economic Affairs Sigmar Gabriel, who is also the patron of the competition.

dena Chief Executive Stephan Kohler noted: "The prizewinners in the Energy Efficiency Awards 2014 demonstrate the dynamism of our industry and the high degree of innovation in the introduction of energy-efficient production conditions. They highlight the fact that energy-efficient measures pay off and have become a genuine factor in a company's profitability."

The international Energy Efficiency Awards 2014 are handed out as part of dena's Initiative EnergieEffizienz (Energy Efficiency Campaign) for outstanding energy efficiency projects in industry and commerce. The focus is placed on especially cost-effective energy efficiency measures and their ability to be transferred to other companies. The Energy Efficiency Awards 2014 are supported by premium partners DZ BANK AG, Imtech Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG and Siemens AG, while the media partner is the trade magazine elektrotechnik INDUSTRIAL ENERGY. The Initiative EnergieEffizienz is conducted by dena and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) on the basis of a decision of the German parliament.
