Frankfurt am Main (ots) - Fraport AG again registered growth at its Frankfurt Airport (FRA) home base for the July 2012 reporting month. FRA welcomed almost 5.8 million passengers in July 2012, resulting in a 3.7 percent gain year-on-year and a new monthly historic record for a calendar month. FRA also scored a new record for the accumulated maximum takeoff weight (MTOW), which climbed by 0.6 percent to about 2.6 million metric tons in July 2012. Aircraft movements also rose by 1.3 percent year-on-year to 43,269 takeoffs and landings. At the beginning of the month, FRA achieved a new daily passenger record on July 1 when the 200,000 mark was exceeded for the first time in the history of Frankfurt Airport. With summer vacations commencing in the German states of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland, FRA served a record 201,380 passengers on this day.
In July 2012, Frankfurt Airport's cargo volume fell by 7.6 percent year-on-year to 180,468 metric tons - which can be attributed, as before, to the overall development of the global economy as well as to the curfew on nighttime scheduled flights at FRA.
Fraport's five majority-owned airports - Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Antalya (AYT), Burgas (BOJ), Varna (VAR) and Lima (LIM) - all posted growth in passenger volumes in the reporting month.
Combined passenger traffic grew by 3.2 percent year-on-year to about 11.8 million passengers.
