comdirect bank AG (WKN 542 800) today announced that is has expanded its market leadership in the first nine months of this year. As at 30 September 2000, Europe's number one online broker had 565,000 customers, including 525,000 direct brokerage customers. Since the beginning of this year, comdirect was thus able to gain almost 300,000 new direct brokerage customers.
The company's growth is also reflected in the transaction figures. In the first nine months of this year, comdirect customers posted a total of 11.9 million placed orders, an increase of 8.6 million compared to the 3.3 million placed orders posted in the same period of last year. The number of executed orders went up from 2.5 million (30 September 1999) to 7.8 million (30 September 2000), an increase of 5.3 million.
Assets under management increased from EUR 6.3 billion as at 30 September 1999 to EUR 12.4 billion as at 30 September 2000. Portfolio volume of direct brokerage customers grew from EUR 4.4 billion to EUR 10.1 billion year on year as at 30 September 2000. As a percentage, this represents an increase of 130 percent. Portfolio volume includes a total of EUR 1.3 billion that are invested in funds.
The number of employees of comdirect rose by 679 year on year, reaching 1,414 as at 30 September 2000.
