comdirect bank AG, Germany, (WKN 542800) has been able to considerably increase the net commission income and net interest income in the first half-year of 2000 compared to the same period of time of the previous year. Thus the profit before taxes has increased from EURO 2.5 million in the first six months of 1999 to EURO 36.8 million in the first six months of this year.
The net interest income has increased from EURO 8.2 million to EURO 23.6 million by EURO 15.4 million. The net commission income also went up by 243 % to EURO 104.5 million compared to the previous year. The positive development of the revenues has mainly resulted from the enormous growth in customers and the positive order figures in the first six months of this year. Thus the number of direct brokerage customers of comdirect has risen from 226,159 (31 December 1999) to 505,252 (30 June 2000) by 279,093. This corresponds to an increase of 123 %. The figure of the executed orders has increased from 1.6 million of the same period of the year 1999 to 5.4 million in the first half-year of 2000 by 3.8 million. The turnover in securities has reached a total of EURO 19.9 billion in the last six months and has thus been more than tripled compared to the same period of the previous year.
With the enormous growth in customers in the first half-year, the personnel capacity has also been extended, i.e. the number of employees has been increased from 695 as of 30 June 1999 to 1,334 as of 30 June 2000.
