München (ots Ad hoc-Service) - Record figures in the first quarter
/ turnover increases to 20.2 m. Euro / 2.25 m. Euro increase / order
position much better than expected / expected turnover for yr 2000
increases to 92 m. Euro
Kontron Embedded Computers AG, listed on the new Frankfurt stock
exchange since 6th April this year, has achieved a record turnover of
20.2 m. Euro in the first quarter of 2000. In comparison with the
same period of last year (6.3 m. Euro), the company has more than
tripled its revenue. At 21.7 m. Euro, new orders were 8 percent above
the quarterly turnover. The earnings before tax (EBT) amounted to
2.64 m. Euro and has quadrupled in comparison to the same quarter
last year (0.63 m. Euro). At 2.25 m. Euro, the surplus for this
quarter represents 11 percent of the turnover. The profit for each
share in the first quarter is 0.19 Euro.
The main reason for this large increase is the boom in
telecommunications, data communications and the internet. In the
meantime, this sector represents 43 percent of the whole embedded
computer market. In 1999, the Kontron Group devoted more than 70
percent of its development investment in this sector alone and,
according to its own information, has achieved a technological
advantage against the competition today of approximately six months,
through its collaboration with Intel in particular.
In order to meet the rapidly growing volume of orders, Kontron
Group also planned an extensive increase during the first quarter of
2000. New pick-and-place production lines have been installed at the
Montreal and Munich sites with a total capacity to produce 200,000
embedded computers. Due to the healthy first quarter and the growth
in turnover in the telecom/datacom sector, the Kontron Group board
has increased the turnover prognosis for 2000 from 82.3 m. Euro to 92
m. Euro. This corresponds to an increase in turnover of 77 percent in
comparison to the 50 m. Euro during the financial year 1999.
The stock exchange quotation brought another 107 m. Euro to the
company which increased the capital ratio to more than 60 percent.
"These resources are now fully available for the acquisition of
competitors or technology start-ups" explained Niederhauser.
The market for embedded computers - 'invisible, computer-based
brains' with integrated software for equipping instruments and plants
with artificial intelligence - continues to be characterised all over
the world by enormous growth rates. During 1999, the Kontron Group
was able to establish itself successfully in this market as one of
the top five suppliers of this product.
