Palmela, Portugal (ots-PRNewswire) - The scroll compressor
produced by Visteon Corporation (NYSE: VC) at its dedicated facility
in Palmela, Portugal, delivers major benefits over conventional,
Visteon's scroll compressor design is based on the principle of
circle involutes or scrolls, which revolve around each other in a
"rolling" motion. Pressure loads supported by ball bearings create
far less friction on internal components when compared to
piston-driven compressors. By reducing the need for hydrodynamic
lubrication that is required to reduce friction at internal contact
points, the scroll compressor provides an inherently smoother
operation and improved thermodynamic efficiency.
The compressor is the engine behind any refrigeration or air
conditioning system and the way in which it operates will play a
large part in determining the effectiveness and efficiency of the
system as a whole. The main benefit of the Visteon scroll compressor
is a quieter, smoother and more efficient operation, along with
greater reliability and durability.
"The scroll compressor will run between 30 percent and 100 percent
capacity reducing engine 'surge' or 'stumble' which is experienced
with some vehicle air conditioning systems," said Sunil Bilolikar,
Compressor Operations Manager at Visteon's Palmela plant. "The
compressor also provides a smoother transition when the air
conditioning is switched from on to off. At the same time, the
compressor helps minimise the effects of air conditioning on power
consumption at typical road speeds."
The scroll compressor is capable of running for extended periods
of time at 10,000 RPM (revolutions per minute) and exceeds OEM's
requirement of reliable service over 10 years or 240,000 kilometres.
