Visteon and Motorola Alliance - First to Deliver New Powertrain Control Technology

Detroit (ots-PRNewswire) - Visteon Corporation's (NYSE: VC) long-term alliance with Motorola SPS results in another first in the development of powertrain control technology. The Visteon/Motorola SPS partnership focuses on developing powertrain control technology to improve drivability and fuel economy, while reducing emissions. The most recent advancement is a powertrain control module that debuts this year in Europe. This module can be easily upgraded, operates faster and has the capability to control more powertrain functions. The combination of Visteon's powertrain control implementation expertise and Motorola SPS's silicon expertise resulted in a revolutionary automotive system solution. The successful implementation of Power PC(TM) reduced the time it takes to upgrade and implement powertrain control improvements from more than three years to a matter of weeks, thereby bringing today's automobile one-step closer to the future. "This alliance is a proven catalyst for major technical breakthroughs as well as the continuing advancement of powertrain controls technology," said Roger Saillant, vice president and general manager of Visteon's Energy Transformation Systems. "MPC565 technology is revolutionary. The partnership resulted in a complete hardware, software and toolset solution that builds upon a proven architecture, making a seamless transition in technology to deliver improved powertrain performance. That's just what customers want and expect." The Visteon/Motorola SPS team first introduced the MPC500 product breakthrough on a 1999 product, representing one of the first major changes in powertrain control technology in nearly 20 years. These innovative solutions brought powertrain control technology from 16-bit architecture to 32-bit architecture. The MPC500 family of powertrain control processors will be showcased at Convergence 2000, Oct. 16-18 at Cobo Center in Detroit.
