On the basis of the currently available figures, BEKO anticipates sales of EUR 37.5 million and reduced earnings compared with the same period of the previous year. EBIT is expected to decline to EUR 841,000 and profit on ordinary activities to about EUR 846,000. The net profit after tax will amount to some EUR 630,000. Consolidated group net income is forecast to rise 15% to approximately EUR 9.4 million. The primary causes of these developments are radical restructuring of the Austrian banking system and a tight labour market in the Austrian IT industry produce a steep rise in labour costs. To these factors is added planned capital expenditure on the establishment of a new division, BEKO help.com. The first sales from the new division are anticipated for the third quarter. BEKO will continue to pursue its existing strategy of conquering new fields of business. Stakes in TeleTrader.com and Call & Logistik Center GmbH will be followed by further strategic investments in the current year. These will be paralleled by a broad-based cost-cutting programme. The half-year results will be presented in detail on 31 August 2000.
