Bad Oeynhausen (ots Ad hoc-Service) - Balda AG: Sales and
results well on target
Strong earnings in first half of year/ Operating performance doubled/ Acquired companies already successful/ Sales target of DM 400 million for 2001.
- In the first six months of the current fiscal
year (to June 30), Balda AG achieved a marked growth in sales
compared with the previous year. Operating performance, including
changes in inventories, climbed by 95 percent, to DM 99.9 million
(previous year: DM 51.3 million).
The manufacturer of mobile phone equipment, based in eastern Westphalia, is thus on target to achieve the higher annual budget of DM 243 million announced in April 2000. Balda increased pre-tax earnings over the same period by a factor of seven, to a total of DM 11.0 million (previous year: DM 1.5 million). Earnings on sales increased fourfold to a margin of 11 percent. The earnings situation for the systems and development partner of the world's leader in the mobile- phone sector is thus well within budget forecasts.
Earnings per share (EPS) for the total of 33.4 million shares issued by Balda AG have thus improved by a factor of 12 in the first half of the current fiscal year, climbing from 1.3 pfennig (0.007 cent) to 17.7 pfennig (0.091 cent) per share. In view of the advanced orders already received, as well as increased manufacturing capacity through the acquisition of three companies, the company forecasts a turnover of DM 400 million in 2001. Increases in expenditure on supplies and personnel were proportionately lower than the the increase in total performance. Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) rose by 180 percent to DM 21 million (previous year DM 7.5 million). Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) improved by 288 percent to DM 13.1 million (previous year: 3.4 million).
The company Albea GmbH, based in Lahr, Baden-Württemberg, acquired by Balda.AG in December 1999, achieved above-average growth surpassing its target in the first half of the year. Independent manufacturing units for Sanyo and Siemens are due to be set up in the Herford plant of Kendrion-Heinze GmbH, a company acquired in July of this year. The know-how and capacity made available through the 430 employees of Kendrion- Heinze will play a major role in supporting the growth of Balda in the next few years. This will particularly apply to the processing of plastics and surface treatment using electroplating technology. Formenbau Lüdenscheid GmbH, acquired in May, is currently undergoing complete reorganization towards its specialization in the development of tools for the telecommunications sector. Balda expects a substantial contribution to sales from this company in 2001. The added manufacturing capacity gained through these acquisitions will make it possible to reach the sales targets of DM 243 million and DM 400 million in 2000 and 2001 respectively.
